Over four days, Oír para Vivir, together with Hear For Purpose, carried out Mission #18 in Hato Mayor, an experience marked by hearing care, professional training, and meaningful encounters with the individuals and families who are part of our mission.
This edition held special significance as we celebrated ten years of collaboration between both organizations, a decade of working together to bring hearing care closer to those who need it.
Hearing Care and New Opportunities
Throughout the mission, we welcomed beneficiaries for hearing assessments, hearing aid distribution, and follow-up care tailored to their individual needs. Each encounter represented an opportunity to support people on their hearing journey and help improve their communication and quality of life.
Behind every appointment is a unique story, a family, and the possibility of creating new connections with the world around them.
Free Training for Hearing Care Professionals
As part of the mission’s activities, several professionals in the field participated in training on Auditory Evoked Potentials (AEP/PEA) and Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR).
The training included both theoretical and practical sessions designed to deepen participants’ understanding of these essential tools for hearing assessment and the early detection of potential hearing difficulties, particularly in newborns.
The training was offered completely free of charge, with certificates awarded to participants, providing them with an opportunity to expand their knowledge and strengthen their professional skills.
These initiatives contribute to the development of hearing care services in the Dominican Republic and help advance early detection efforts.
Investing in Early Detection
During this edition, Enoc and Kora also strengthened their knowledge of the use of ABR equipment, a tool that evaluates the auditory system’s responses and provides valuable information for early detection.
Hands-on practice with babies complemented the knowledge acquired and helped further strengthen the team’s ability to provide more comprehensive hearing care.
Collaboration That Makes a Difference
During these days, we welcomed representatives of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who had the opportunity to learn firsthand about Oír para Vivir’s work and see the new PEA equipment in use, made possible through their support.
We also welcomed Dr. Loli, an otolaryngologist whose expertise and support help strengthen the care provided throughout the mission.
The participation of our partners demonstrates the importance of joining forces to expand access to hearing care services.
Ten Years Alongside Hear For Purpose
Mission #18 was also an opportunity to celebrate ten years of collaboration between Hear For Purpose and Oír para Vivir.
A decade of shared work, experiences, and commitment to a common mission. This celebration allowed us to reflect on the journey so far and express our gratitude to everyone who has helped make it possible.
Thank You for Making It Possible
We extend our gratitude to Hear For Purpose, the Embassy of Germany in the Dominican Republic, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Carrefour, and Meeting God in Missions for their support and collaboration.
We also recognize the healthcare professionals, volunteers, and collaborators who dedicated their time and expertise to this edition.
As Mission #18 comes to a close, we take with us new experiences, valuable lessons, and renewed motivation to continue working so that more people can access hearing care.
Four days of shared efforts remind us that behind every assessment, every hearing aid, and every new tool lies an opportunity to transform lives.
