The Dominican Republic celebrated another historic achievement during the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, as the national team won the gold medal in the mixed 4×400-meter relay. Among the champions was Christopher Melenciano, an athlete with hearing loss whose determination and talent continue to inspire both the sports world and the deaf community.
Together with Marileidy Paulino, Anabel Medina, and Erick Sánchez, Melenciano helped lead the Dominican Republic to the top of the podium, delivering one of the country’s most memorable moments in athletics.

His remarkable journey began making history in 2022, when he became the first Dominican athlete with hearing loss to win medals at the Deaflympics, earning gold in the 200 meters and silver in the 400 meters. Since then, he has continued to establish himself among the Dominican Republic’s top sprinters through hard work, discipline, and unwavering commitment.
Following his victory in Santo Domingo, Melenciano expressed his gratitude to his teammates and everyone who has supported his athletic career. He highlighted the values of humility, discipline, teamwork, and dedication—principles that have guided him throughout his journey.
